Seperate yourselves from the spirit of this era

Mikuláš Török, 21.11.2007

Eph 2:1-8 And He has made you alive, who were once dead in trespasses and sins. 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience 3 among whom we also had our way of life in times past, in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us 5 (even when we were dead in sins) has made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved), 6 and has raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.

1Ti 4:1-5 But the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and teachings of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, being seared in their own conscience, 3 forbidding to marry, saying to abstain from foods which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creation of God is good, and nothing to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving. 5 For it is sanctified through the Word of God and prayer.

Eph 6:12-17 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the world's rulers, of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Therefore take to yourselves the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Therefore stand, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness 15 and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. 16 Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

(MKJV)

Everyone living without God lives in sin and guilt. It's not only because he continues his forefathers' sins and conforms to the sins of his surroundings though. The Bible says in Eph 2:2 that the life in sin is under control of "the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience". In other words that through sins humanity is under the power of the ruler of this world.

The Bible also says that there are certain powers at work at particular times to work on society in a specific way. i.e. 1Tim 4:1-3 reads that there will be special emphasis on distorting and degradation of the role of marriage, or on refusing certain types of foods in the last days. Both of these occur very frequently today.

Normal relationship between man and woman is presented more and more as out of date, useless and the same sex relationships are being legalized, etc. To "live to the fullest" is more important these days than starting a family and people put off starting a family until sometimes it's too late to even do it.

What Bible describes as abstinence from foods (1Tim) also includes inappropriate emphasis on physical care and our looks. It's proper to take care of our bodies which are the temples of the Holy Spirit; but creating a body-cult is a result from the pressure of the spirits of this present age.

There's further a similar pressure on people to become financially and economically dependent and more and more people from western cultures live a life style of debt.

The future outcome will be a complete change of atmosphere and the way our society works - the society will consist of isolated people economically entirely depending on government and subsequently easily manipulated.

Christians live in this world and may take advantage of all privileges of modern society without feeling guilty. But they must stay in the power of the Holy Spirit, wholly separated from the spirit of this present age, that overturns people's thinking and reasoning and fundamentally changes the character of a society. It's essential for Christians to live in accordance to God's word and also biblically actively fight against these powers and principalities (Eph 6:12-17).
